High School of Business TAC Recognition: Jean and Jennifer

The High School of Business™ (HSB) Teacher Advisory Committee (TAC) was established to provide a voice for our HSB teachers across the country. As the program grows, we believe it’s important to assemble a group of experienced HSB teachers to collaborate on program support and improvements. These teachers can also assist with presentations and events as needed.

This week, we have two teachers who have been exceptional members of the TAC and to the HSB program! Join us in giving Jean Schneider (Committee Chair) and Jennifer Starke-White a big thank you for their dedication and service!

Read more about Jean and Jennifer below:

TAC Committee Chair Jean Schneider spent the first part of her career in sales and marketing, ultimately working as a VP for an internet technology company. Then, when she realized she didn’t get much time with her small children, she left the corporate world to teach technology in middle school. As her children grew older, she returned to the corporate side, working as an IT Project Manager. Nine years ago, she returned to teaching at Prairie View High School.

Prairie View High School is in its eighth year as an HSB school and consistently enrolls over 500 of the 1800 students participating each year for the past five years. It is the largest pathway in their school district, with PVHS students currently running a school store that grossed $150,000 last school year, and a concession stand that grosses $30K a year. All business seniors complete a 60-hour, semester-long internship as part of their HSB program.

On a personal note, Jean spends lots of time with her partner Rick, her adult children, and enjoys her first grandchild (patiently waiting for more). When not engaged in family time, baking is her favorite stress reliever.

Jennifer Starke-White is a business teacher at Oconomowoc High School in Wisconsin. After graduating from Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, MN, she worked in sales and hospitality in Minneapolis for two years while attending the University of Minnesota.  In 1992, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she received her bachelor’s degree in marketing education and a master’s degree in Career and Technical Education.

In 1994, Jennifer started teaching at Oconomowoc High School in Wisconsin and has taught a variety of classes, including Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Advanced Marketing, Educational Internship, Hospitality, and Career Portfolio. Currently, she teaches: HSB Principles of Business, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Management, and Business Strategies. Additionally, she is the DECA advisor and has been involved in a CTSO since she was a sophomore in high school.

In her free time, she enjoys volunteering in her church’s children’s ministry and in her children’s activities. Her four grown children and one grandchild provide a lot of joy and entertainment.

I enjoy the culmination of the HSB class content as students complete the Entrepreneurship Capstone experience! They speak the language, understand expectations, and rise to the occasion as they start a small business!”
