Business Management and Finance (BMF) Fall Institute

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in partnership with MBA Research and Curriculum Center is offering professional development for BMF program instructors on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Embassy Suites Baltimore North – Hunt Valley, 213 International Circle, Hunt Valley, MD 21030. The registration fee is $89.00 per person. Hours for the one-day workshop will be 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Due to limited availability, registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. All registrations are due by Monday, October 1, 2018. The workshop includes on-site training; course-specific content, materials, and supplies; and lunch. Breakfast is included only for participants who stay at Embassy Suites. Costs for travel and lodging will be the responsibility of the school system.

The focus of the Fall Institute will be:

  • Strategies for using newly revised Maryland BMF curricula, including the Principles of Business Management and Entrepreneurship course guide   
  • Teaching ideas, activities, lesson plans, and best practices for the classroom
  • Networking with leaders in BMF, including secondary and post-secondary instructors and business professionals

Special thanks to the Daniels Fund for a major grant supporting the development and revision of comprehensive courses and learning modules for business and marketing education.

Ethics and ethical decision-making are the ultimate business advantage. The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative: High School program is changing the way that business administration teachers discuss ethical decisions with their students nationwide. In partnership with the Daniels Fund, MBA Research is developing new course guides and learning modules to support a wide variety of business administration courses, including those supporting programs in:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Finance
  • Management/Administration
  • Marketing


This brand new initiative provides tools and training to:

  • Integrate ethical decision-making throughout the curriculum
  • Introduce "business" through a new leadership course
  • Earn digital badges (micro credentials) to document achievement
  • Incorporate ethics into competitive events

  • Greater understanding of the Daniels Fund and the Eight Ethical Principles
  • Strategies for utilizing (free) learning modules (LAPs) to deliver ethics education

This specialized workshop is designed primarily for high school business and marketing teachers who emphasize core business content.  (Not recommended for programs focused primarily on technology.)
